Hi Charles,

In too many baskets? I cannot give a definite answer until next quarter. Sun's bread and butter has always been the higher end servers. In this area, I hear they are killing the competition. The real interesting part is the workstations. It sounds like the war is between UltraSparc vs. Pentium Pro. Something we have to understand is that there are two types of markets, companies upsizing and companies downsizing. The companies downsizing have basically stayed loyal to SUNW while companies upsizing are staying with Pentium Pro because of cheapness in price and familiarity (Windows O/S).
Now here are some key questions.
1. Does 64-bit vs. 32-bit matter?
2. Does graphics matter?
3. Ability to retrieve information quickly?
4. Since the price decrease by Sun, has there been a favorable response? (COMPARE PRICES -- how much more?)
For the NC, I heard that for the first six months they will only sell it towards the business environment. I believe is the correct move. They can work out all the bugs before selling it to consumers. Also, by that time there should be many more programs for Java.
Here's a question for everyone, do you prefer the power of your PC vs. what a JavaStation is suppose to do? When I try to answer this myself I can't because I don't what the NC is capable of in terms of speed, like traffic on the server, uploading and downloading time, etc.? There are still many questions yet to be answered. However, I do like the philosophy behind it. The question here is what type of margins will they have? We know how much a Pentium costs but what of a microsparc (is that what its' called)? Who are they attacking, PC's or workstations?
All the current product lines are in rapidly growing industries in which they are getting a large chunk of each. I believe we will be pleasantly surprised with the results.

Ellison
