I'm not naive enough to believe that there wasn't just an eensy bit of pressure brought, a la "all those Dems are unethical", by the Republican opposition.
Hmmmm........
Well, if those Repubs put a gun to Torricelli's head and forced him to resign, it's invalid. But that isn't what happened. He did it of his own free will.

It looks very much like the Repub guv candidate here in CA is going to lose. Badly. Davis, the Dem incumbent, spent lots of dough back in the primaries knocking out his opponent, a moderate Repub who stood a good chance of beating Davis.

Is it OK if we force this bum to resign and substitute the moderate? Even though CA law, like NJ, says it's too late?

Yes or no?

You don't see a problem with this sort of thing? Why bother with primaries?
And don't put your REAL, GOOD candidates in them; put in some bum. Then substitute the good candidate as late as possible so the opposition has as little chance to examine and throw mud at them as possible.

Is this the election scenario you advocate?

The Dems are playing dirty here, Poet. It's that simple.

It's simply politics as usual, IMO, ugly on both sides.
Well, I guess you'll have to wait for Heaven. Politics down on this ball of dirt is always dirty. Democratic, monarchial, dictatorial, whatever.

I'm not cynical enough to believe that supreme court justices pay more heed to party affiliations than general matters of justice.
In that case the USSC decision in Bush v. Gore was perfectly fine and I don't want to ever hear you attack it.
