You are doing the wrong comparison. You are comparing Java revenue to things end user packages like Microsoft Office, Corel WordPerfect Suite, and Lotus Smart Suite. This is the incorrect comparison. The article clearly identified the revenue as being from "developer" tools like Java tools and content development tools. While office suites have a potential market measured in hundred million, the number of reasonable customers for development tools is on the order of a million or 2. You should compare the Java revenues to C++ compilers for a more accurate comparison, and then draw your conclusions.
