What I was disturbed about was the seeming eagerness of at least three members of that other thread to enter into the spirit of the Patriot Act and report someone on another thread to the FBI, because they misunderstood his message.

It is the cooperation of weak, cowardly, stupid, and malicious people with government police agencies that makes possible police states and preserves totalitarian governments.

I tried to get Ground Zero and the others on that thread to say if they had really done what he claimed was done, and the only response was a lot of nasty, insulting, and irrelevant backtalk. When I realized I was dealing with a moral and intellectual lepers' colony, I put them all on ignore and left the scene. I seldom use that "ignore" feature on SI but it seemed best. I don't know what they have been saying for maybe the last 24 hours.

If there was any misunderstanding, they certainly ought to clear it up.

W.F. Godot brought this to my attention to start with and it seemed clear to him and to me that those guys had actually informed on another SI member to the FBI.

I have a lot more confidence in the patriotism, intelligence, and sanity of the FBI than I do in those guys, and I assume it caused no real problems. But does not reflect well on SI that such a thing should happen.

Or so it seems to me.

I am dropping this business entirely now. I notice other people with more sense than I have, such as Knighty Tin and Terry Maloney, simply walked out of that nuthouse.
