Gosh, I thought prisons are largely for punishment and paying one's debt to society, not a job program. But if politicians in their infinite wisdom insist that convicts be paid for their work, then isn't it only fair and equitable that they use that income to repay the State for their prison room and board expenses, instead of having taxpayers foot the bill?

And, they're working outside in sunny CA in relative freedom, instead of stamping license plates in a sweatshop. Btw, where do they learn firefighting skills? Good job training for when they're released. Maybe they should pay tuition, too, on top of room and board. Helps prepare them for the real economy.
