Well typical more for the numerically intensive operations like 3D and Solids Modelling. The percentage of time wasted waiting depends more or less on the size of the drawing and how complex it is and the degree of detail. For instance for nuts and bolts I use the less detailed symbols. But say for a marketing drawing where you wish to impress the customer you may want to show every little detail down to the thread profiles.
Obviously for a simple drawing it won't make much of a difference.
But for the engineering companies they may take another look if it
competes well with the the more advanced CAD/CAM systems like CADAM,
or Intergraph. CADAM runs on an IBM mainframe and Intergraph ran on
DEC minis. Although Intergraph has a version for the PC too now.
