My read on the CC:

IVAC is happy with the current backlog, but cannot provide guidance
for 98 until April or so. The current backlog is heavily loaded
with Japanese companies. They set budgets in March - IVAC will know
plans then. The current companies are all still talking expansion,
but are keeping an eye on conditions. IVAC is clearly worried
about the current overcapacity situation. Last Q they were cautious,
they were very cautious this CC. It is not pretty IMO in the DD industry
out there.

The analysts tried many times in the call to get them to commit to
rev for 98, but IVAC would only say flattish, but we're not sure really.

Good points included a potential market for the near field recording
equip, flat panel units are sitll planned to be sold in 98, Fujitsu
has place an initial order which is a real good thing because they have
big plans for expansion of media ops in the future, Pond said
that everyone now admits that static is the way to go.

My guess is that you will definitely not see ANY upward revisions
and probably will see some downward ones. Actually, I was surprised
that most of the big gun analysts were not present in the CC.

The time to tell whether IVAC is going to be a good investment will
be April. Check the backlog again, and listen to the CC notes after
the Japanese set their budgets.
