I2: Does Adaptec really have only the one manufacturing facility?

Yes. They've had a tax holiday there for some years, which has been quite beneficial, and I imagine they're benefitting from lower costs of mfg. due to the current Asian crisis. They have a prototype mfg. line in Milpitas for developing/testing new products, but all "real" manufacturing comes out of Singapore.

This does not include, of course, any ancillary mfg. sites associated with acquired companies, but sooner or later everything ends up being built in Singapore.

Makes you hope that plant has a good fire-prevention system, doesn't it? I'd like to see management explain the new Singapore plant, reported to be coming online in December - it'll be nice to know what they have in mind here: more capacity, greater efficiency or both?
