I didn't understand what the slangs mean, so I asked around. Here is the answer I got from an American, she wrote to me :
Last night I was helping my 12 year old with his English homework. He was reading a story that used dialect, specifically the sentence "I can lick anyone". We were discussing the fact that "lick" meant "beat", but it must be very strange to people who read this and think that this person is actually going to run around licking everyone.
I mentioned, in very general turns, the issue of the internet access using Woody Woodpecker. He wanted to know the specifics and, after checking that he wouldn't be using this to entertain his friends on the bus, told him about "Touch Woody the internet pecker". He thought this was hysterical, not just because of pecker (which you already knew about ), but because of "touch woody". I asked him what he thought it meant and he said, "Oh a woody is you know a girl's (genitals) so "touch woody" means....and with pecker!" He assured me that if I had any more questions, I should feel free to ask him!
So, much to my shock, I've discovered an excellent consultant on "obscene English slang". My HUSBAND had never heard of this either! |
