B: Merge Technologies Ships Second Generation of Medical Information Server

MILWAUKEE, Jan 5, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Merge Technologies
Incorporated (NASDAQ:MRGE) today announced that second generation
MergeARK(tm) systems have been shipped to sites in Europe. The MergeARK
medical image information server is a member of the MergeWorks suite of
products that leverage powerful industry standard technologies such as
Linux, Java, DICOM, HL-7 and the Internet to provide significant
workflow integration and information management improvements for the
healthcare industry.

"The server is a key component of any electronic medical information
network," stated Nick Donofrio, program manager for Merge Technologies.
"In radiology, the server must securely store and supply the relevant
clinical images from prior studies. It should also provide easy
retrieval and reprints of original radiographic films. MergeARK has
always done this, but now in the second generation we've moved it to a
far more powerful and flexible design platform. The hardware will now
be based on Dell servers and the operating system software will be
based on Red Hat Linux version 6.0."

"I'm very excited about the opportunity this presents to our
customers," added Joseph P. Gentile, Director of Worldwide System
Sales. "It allows our installed base of over 300 clinical network
systems to evolve to the next level of integrated healthcare enterprise
by expanding the use of their current Merge information appliances such
as ExamWorks(tm)".

Donofrio further explained, "Basing the MergeARK on Dell servers
assures our customers that they'll always receive leading edge hardware
technology from a major player in the computer industry. Plus, the
broad Dell product line also allows Merge to offer MergeARK in a wide
range of performance and price. And using Red Hat Linux allows the
MergeARK to take advantage of the hottest operating system software.
The wide variety of application drivers now supported by Red Hat Linux
will dramatically shorten the development time for the MergeARK
software programs. It will be a major boost in productivity for the
engineering team."

Some of the installations will also include the newest version of CD-R
libraries from Pioneer, the DRM-7000. These libraries will store
approximately 670 CDs at a time and will provide data storage of over
400 gigabytes. The libraries can easily be upgraded to use DVD media
later this year for an increase in storage capacity to over three
terabytes.

Merge Technologies Incorporated is a global leader in the drive toward
an integrated healthcare enterprise. The Company's products integrate
the data generated by medical devices into standard medical data
communications formats such as DICOM and HL-7, provide clinical
workflow integration and produce multimedia electronic reports for
distribution in a healthcare enterprise information network. The
Company's products have been installed at thousands of healthcare
facilities throughout the world.
