Kirk, you really are missing the point. What is the point? Polling friends and neighbors is not very scientific. You may occasionally get the truth out of them. Many people do panic at market bottoms and sell all their investments but if you want to know if people are over or under invested you need to look at charts like this one below on Rydex Ratios which shows my friends are probably lying but not fully panicked yet:
