Barbara, I caught this "hot off the wire!" New York, NY June 16/UPN News/--Researchers at the Institute of Animal Behavioral Science today announced a breakthrough in the use of chimpanzees. The scientists revealed that they have actually been able to train chimps to use a computer. Dr. Will Tell said that three chimps in particular have shown great promise. The chimps, named ColleenB, jhild and marcos have been trained in the use of a computer and can actually use functions such as cut and paste. Dr. Tell does say that further study needs to be done to find out why the chimps are so fascinated with the "h" and "a" keys on the computer keyboard. He also says that at this stage they have not been able to produce anything of any substance, but tend to to repeat the same things over and over, month after month. "But still," says the Dr., "they work very cheaply, a few bananas a day, and they are very good in situations where only a fraction of intelligence is required. So far there has been a great demand from stock market market maker firms for the chimps, especially these three. If only we could do something about their foul odor, I think we could find many other practical applications for the monkeys in the broader market." Admittedly purloined from an RB poster.
