As a generalization the direction of the bid or ask price is suggestive of the direction of the stock price... Sometimes closing bids can be manipulated to give the impression of rising or lowered price direction... The tighter (closer) the spread the better it is for accumulation of stock... People don't like to buy a stock with large spreads...
