FWIW, my father-in-law, who shared your same view of music past the 60's, actually liked a lot of Rush. Not all of their music is hard rock. And their latest (of 20-some) albums just came out yesterday and may well become my favorite. Lots of good stuff on it.
Jurrasic Rock at its best, IMO. Well, them and Aerosmith, who I think got a LOT better as they became grandparents.
Edit: Though a Blackjack dealer in Vegas who looked uncannily like Brent Spiner ("Data" on Star Trek, TNG) responded to my comment to that effect with "Interesting comment coming from someone who's a ringer for Jerry Garcia", I know nothing about Jerry-Berry or the Grateful Dead. Never liked their music and never could figure out what all the fuss was about.
Actually, that dealer had been told many times he looks like "Data". I was just the first one who had told him the actor's name. If he'd just go with it and learn to talk like the character, he'd probably be the busiest, mostly highly-tipped dealer on the strip.
If you find yourself at the Imperial Palace in Vegas, check him out. Works nights. He doesn't just look similar to Spiner. He looks like he *is* Spiner.
BTW, no I don't look like Jerry Garcia. Yeah, I'm a bit on the large side, and wear glasses, and at 4 in the morning in Vegas my hair (which is really long) looks like his, but most of the time I'm told I look like John Denver after an all-night drunk.
Or maybe I should take it differently that I'm told I look like dead people.
Well, with one exception.
