David -- like your emphasis on the clinical trials aspect of evaluation. it is my opinion (and i offer it humbly) that what is needed here is someone who can appraise the basic viability and applicability of the science at a very fundamental level. as i recall, amgen's neutrogen (granulocyte colony stimulating factor) was isolated, prepared and tested at memorial sloan-kettering. amgen subsequently acquired the rights etc and turned it into a business. i know i would like to have the opportunity of investing in the very early stages of a biotech's development but don't always feel i have the expertise to pick a neutrogen-like product at its genesis--doolyponder --presently i own ariad pharmaceuticals and pdli and like small molecules in general. I plan to sit it out...... .
