Ok, so there was this article in the Sunday paper that I found interesting. I tend to be sort of libertarian on these kinds of things, but I don't know what to make of this. The potential for exploitation seems large, but on the other hand, as with the war on some drugs, the potential for exploitation seems to only get worse when you keep it all in the illegal netherworld.
In extra ironic counterpoint, the transfer that's the main story line goes about as wrong as it possibly can, but there's a much cheaper, much more professional, apparently much better run, and even, lord help us, much more ethical version of the operation in Iraq of all places. On one level, it's all pretty disquieting, but on another level, these things are going to go on regardless, so it's good to discuss it openly. |
