When I worked out of Upper Darby Pennsylvania, the University of Pennsylvania had a computer center that I could get to in 30 minutes by subway. The computer center at Yale University in New Haven was organized in such a way that we could get 15 minute turnaround time for jobs that took one or two days at UP. So we were easily able to justify per diem and travel to New Haven to use their computer center. The center was across the street from the Peabody Institute so while waiting for my 15 minute job to get run I could go look at dinosaurs. The Yale computer center was directed by a forester (Dr. George Furnival). Foresters know how to do stuff efficiently, so that's why Yale's computer was better even though it was an older model than UP's.

By the way, have you read "My Petition for More Space" by John Hersey? It was set in New Haven, so I was able to visualize the story very well.
