That sounds wise. I do pretty much the same. Take profits in what is up then look for market corrections to buy back what is down and thus lower than my target asset allocation.

I try to take more profits when I think the market is "toppy" and force myself to buy more when it is scary and the sentiment things I follow say it is a good time to buy.

I also have some buys and sells that go off automatically to "take profits" and trim my allocation when price objectives are met.
