If you look at the sector's announcements lately, I think you will note that all of the major boxmakers are scrambling to fight in DELL's arena. So I doubt very much that

*This is exactly what CPQ, IBM... want. they want DELL to cross the road and fight in their field.

That might be true if DELL were going to use their methods. An historical analogy, if you like: DELL has invented the longbow in an era of spearthrowers.
