On the wireless side, Brasil Telecom may well acquire local competitive exchange carrier Vesper, analyst Edigimar Maximiliano from local bank Unibanco told BNamericas, if the regulator allows Vesper to offer mobile services on its 1900MHz band-network. Like Vesper, Brasil Telecom possesses three mobile licenses tied to the 1800MHz band, and is awaiting a final decision from the regulator on whether the rules can be bent to allow the licenses to be used on the 1900MHz band. The chances of a favorable decision for Vesper and Brasil Telecom on this point are slim, however, after chief regulator Luiz Schymura gave indications on Wednesday that he would be rigid in sticking to the original rules.
