I get these ear aches at least once a year - lucked out with this one, it seems to have cleared up, which is probably because it was in the right ear. The left one is the one that gets it worst, usually I have to take antibiotics. I had that already earlier this season. :( For pain relief the best thing is ear drops with benzocaine - which used to be available over the counter but now you have to have a prescription - I think because your ear drum can rupture so it's better to be seen by a doctor. When I can't get to a doctor right away I've been mixing benzocaine ointment and olive oil and using that, because the ointment is thick so it's hard to get into the ear. The little squirt tip on the Orajel tube made it easy, and it is thick so it didn't run out.
