I wonder how much of that 145,000 went to the donor? It is a wretched life when a young person has to give up an organ to endure their situation. Hard for most of us to imagine, I think.

I've always believed in the right of a competent person to do what they want with their own body. So in the circumstance where people are doing this illegally and where they have no protection under the law, I think it should be made legal. With the needs of these sellers placed above ground as it were, perhaps society in the non profit sector could help to address the poverty that engenders such desperation. I guess it is a desperate act on both ends of the transaction.

Some problems just don't have any good solutions...
