I think your were right about GUPTA. Yesterday it was up when the
market was down. But today it dropped 3/4 while NASDAQ up to 12.72.
I think it is the good time to buy it. I have been working on GUPTA
development for almost 2 years and also experienced using other 4GL
client/server development tools such as Powerbuilder and Visual Basic
before. Almost everyone who has dual experiences on GUPTA and
Powerbuilder would agree that GUPTA is a much better and more
powerful tool than Powerbuilder. Its SAL provides full support of
Object-Oriented Programming and makes it easy to implement whatever
desired by the users. GUPTA works very well on the big system while
Powerbuilder, Visual Basic, MS ACCESS are more suitable for small and
stand alone system. The question is what is the ratio of big ones vs.
small ones in the market. On their June’s developers conference,
Centura (GUPTA) announced the timetable for their new products.
The most attractive ones are ‘Centura Ranger’ and ‘Centura Web
developer’. The former offers universal data replication and the
later lets you easily "web-enable" both applications and data.
Centura’ system requires Window 95 or window NT. It is hard to tell
how many companies will upgrade their systems in the near future.
Probably we won’t see Centura’s new products in great demand within
one year or even longer. I think not so good marketing is one of the
reasons their products have not been widely recognized. They have
changed their market strategy. I was told that they increase their
advertisement from on 4 magazines to 14 magazines. I and my
co-developers of GUPTA are confident that it will go up eventually.

P.S. Thanks for starting this site.
