I was 40 miles from town, sawing lumber in a small sawmill. Never heard about it till around 1:30 after lunch when the lumber truck driver came for a load and told us.

I recall the sudden fear and uncertainty everyone felt. Not only in our crew but also in the general population over the next 24 to 48 hours. Wondering if it may have been planned by Russian operatives. The cold war was still very real.

We all knew if Russia was responsible A major war (Possibly Nuclear) was very likely . Below is a link describing preceding events of the Cuban Crisis prior to the Kennedy assassination.

The war clock was less than 1 minute before midnight. It is forever etched indelibly in my mind.
