That grandmother was the same one who told my brothers and three cousins as teenagers about her uncle who had been a moonshiner in Michigan and rolled a 50 gallon charred oak barrel of whiskey down the back of the farm to sink in the creek so the Revenue cops would n't get it.

Ssitting around her kitchen table exhausted after a week of dredging the creek for it, she smiled at us and said, "You know boys, I'm sorry you didn't find the barrel, but I really appreciate you trenching out a half mile of that creek for me..."
