KDDI America Chooses Williams Communications to Deliver Frame Relay Services

Williams Communications Continues to Solidify its Commitment to Long-term Customers

TULSA, Okla. – Williams Communications (NYSE: WCG), a leading broadband provider for bandwidth-centric customers, announced today an expansion of its existing relationship with KDDI America, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of KDDI Corporation, the largest international telecommunications company in Japan.
Under the terms of this agreement, KDDI America chose Williams Communications as the provider for its U.S. frame relay network as an extension to an existing data services agreement.
“We chose Williams Communications because of its network performance, proactive circuit monitoring and network architecture,” said Akio Nozaka, executive vice president, KDDI America. “With this relationship, KDDI America will receive access to retail/commercial customers in the United States without having to invest capital in a costly build-out.”
In 2000, KDDI America and Williams Communications forged a strategic business relationship that offers next-generation network connectivity between the United States and Japan. Williams Communications and KDDI America have interconnected networks and have been collaborating on the development of products and services to serve the global marketplace.
“This agreement underscores the importance of Williams Communications’ focus on its customers – to form a long-term, comprehensive business relationship that can deliver increasing benefits to each party,” said Paul Savill, vice president of Enhanced Data Services for Williams Communications. “We provide the operational visibility via our network management system to make our network a virtual extension of the customer’s network.”
KDDI America currently uses Williams Communications for U.S. private line, Asynchronous Transfer Mode, dedicated Internet access and international backhaul services.
This agreement represents a significant step for the company in implementing its local-to-global network strategy. Williams Communications is aggressively executing on its plan to be a single-source provider for the efficient delivery of end-to-end network services on a global scale. By leveraging its domestic backbone assets, the company has rapidly forged a significant Asian and European presence.
