ELMG is wireless - there doesn't seem to be much overlap between satellite and land wireless, although a big hybrid company like Teleglobe uses both. SIRI is radio - well, of course it's all radio, but I mean like what you have in your truck. They plan to charge a monthly subscription fee, like satellite TV. I don't see that business model catching on, but I know people who do. My thought is that people have a natural tendency to prefer what is free unless there is no way on earth to get what they want for free. So they're likely to stick with CDs and tapes, and if they are on the road tune in to the news when they are near a city or town. Probably truckers will subscribe, but is it enough for the overhead and then a profit? Satellites are not cheap.

I am in the process of putting together a couple of medical malpractice cases, and I need some articles out of medical journals. I can get abstracts for free on-line, that's why I got online to begin with, even before there was the Internet I could dial up the NIH and download abstracts, but to get the articles I need to go to a medical library. Now the journals are online but you either have to subscribe to the journal or some will let you download the article for $15 or $25 bucks. I just wait until I've got enough I need to make it worthwhile and drive to a medical library and photocopy them. NFW am I going to buy an article based on an abstract. But I have relatively easy access to a number of medical libraries, including the National Library of Medicine at NIH.
