These 5 star camps and AAU events are where it starts from. It is a catch 22 situation for the kids. If they dont play those events, they arent ranked as high by the analysts, and scouts. It isnt like the old days, where coaches attended players at all their High School games. It is easier and less costly for them to attend these camps, and events, and then target their recruits from there. So, there is much more attention on these players than in the past. And like previously mentioned...outside pressure enters in, with boosters, and even agents (with so many kids going to the NBA out of High School). Thats where a lot of violations start from.

The great thing about programs such as Duke and Carolina, is that they are established programs. Once a program gets to that stature, it is easier to recruit. Players see them play on television from around the country, and want to come play their ball there. It becomes a more national thing than regional. Interesting, enough, when a lot of these established programs start to fall off a little, that seems to be when they get in a little trouble. Pressure from alumni, and the boosters, causes them to search for that little something extra. Case in point...Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Miami in football, and Kentucky, Louisville, and Michigan were all on probation, at one point, in basketball. I do, however, think it is a little naive to think the Dukes and Carolinas of the world are immune to it. I am sure they are, at least, in the gray area.
