Maybe why nobody exposed him is because they didn't want to start a
dirt war; a "sexual armaggedon", like I think it was William Bennett himself suggested may happen if people don't back off Clinton.

That seems to have been pretty much the way things were. J. Edgar was a LOT better at spying on people than Linda Tripp may ever dream of being. And he had considerable connections with organized crime, which didn't hurt. A really exemplary person...
