OT - not AIM related.

SAM,

I was looking for companies that have a reasonable price to book value and adequate cash reserves to see them through the time between now and when the industry starts to move. Not sure VCST would meet that sniff test, although I only took a 10 second look.

The other criteria was that the companies should have some analyst following that I could access. VCST apparently has no research following as reported by Zacks. I also like to look for headlines where the company is making significant partnerships with recognizable names or at least signing contracts of significant value. For instance I don't see VCST receiving any endorsement from Microsoft or RealNetworks for their products although VCST made announcements supporting their standards. Again a 10 second sniff test.

In contrast take a look at the partners on FVCX.

Look at the OEM's at the bottom of the page.

I think what I've seen with FVCX (-60% since I bought it) is that they are having typical small company teething pains where they transition from having one major customer (Nortel) to many customers. They also have a problem in making financial statements which are later viewed as false which is why the lawsuit. Right now FVCX wouldn't pass the sniff test either. Not sure the damage is temporary but willing to give them a chance at working out their problems.

So, VCST may be a good selection. Obviously, FVCX wasn't timed correctly. ;-)
