Oh Yawn...Cyrix merged cause it had to, was going down the tubes. As for the sub 1000 box, sure it will do well. Some people will buy Yugos or whatever. Lots of others want their sports utility vehicles, or whatever. Personally, i want the screamingest box I can afford, and have aways found it made A Lot of difference when I upgraded. In fact just went from Pentium 90 24 meg ram and an overstuffed 800 meg drive to 166MMX w/80 megs and 5 gig and found its makes all kinds of difference for everything, ESPECIALLY surfing the web. I tend to keep 8 or so Web windows open now with Netscape 4.0 plus my spreadsheet, and sometimes Value Line's memory hog \program as well...Yoweeee, give me power.
And as for corps, well most of the TCO is in training, and software/ systems upgrading & maintaining. As in, that 3/4 of the cost. Cyrix don't do a damn thing for that. What does is network manageability, which Dell is in the forfront of with their Flex line. ....
Also, more integrated software suits, less cross over training.
The switch from WordPerfect and Lotus to Office cost a bundle, but its now over for most places. (Course some never did and won't). |
