The traffic would be my undoing. I adore Atlanta, it's really one of my favorite cities, but no, just no. (traffic is horrendous).

My last neighborhood, pre divorce, was/is considered one of the best in our county, and we had quite a few neighbors who were from the west coast. They bought houses for $500,000 that would have been in the millions in CA. You can get very high end construction for about $110 s/f, for comparison. Beautiful neighborhoods, close to a major airport, nice people... I know CA is gorgeous and has much to offer, but still...
