As I have already explained to John Sugas in message #50 (maybe you should pay closer attention) I work for myself as an independent software developer and techs stock trader:

techstocks.com

I am one of the people who has the most to lose personally if this rule were put into effect.

I have always found it more than slightly amusing that so many on SI are determined to attribute any opinion another member might have to some sort of compromised interest. Believe it or not, Roger, independent-minded individuals can study the issues and come up with objective opinions on various subjects free of any sort of personal interests - sorry that has escaped you in your own personal quest to deal with the world around you.

Even if I did work for "TelCo" I fail to see how this would motivate my current thinking. Most employees of telcos are mid-salary range, have only a modest pension to look forward to, and nothing in the way of stock options. I went to school with a few EE who work for PacBel and they have no special interests in promoting the agenda of their employer outside of work; they have nothing to gain by doing so.

In constrast, those who work in the web and ISP related area most often have stock options which would guarantee their future wealth if their companies were to go public at a good price, or if the stock were to climb significantly. These individuals have a clear path towards compromised opinion on this issue, as cheap i-net access, effectively subsidized by others, increases significantly the chances of their firms hitting it rich.
