Holly, I am directing this at you because of your status as a Californian.(There may be others.)

Quickly approaching is a special election for the U.S. House in the 22nd district of California on March 10, between the widow of former Congressman Walter Capps and Assemblyman Tom Bordonaro.

Prediction (purely my own analysis):

If the Dems lose that seat then you will see a frantic race to see which rats can get off the S.S. Clinton first. The reason is that there is only one known instance in which a widow has lost a special election to fill the seat of her husband. (In all, one-fifth of the 165 women who have served in the House were elected to fill their late husband's seat.) A defeat there would surely be read as a portent of things to come and would greatly undermine Clinton's political support both within the Dem party and beyond.

In June there is another special election in California to fill the House seat of the late Sonny Bono. His widow, Mary, is running. Barring some major gaff, I expect her to easily exceed the landslide margins that Sonny had won.
