Raisio's Benecol to hit U.S. on May 26

HELSINKI, May 18 (Reuters) - Finnish food group Raisio said on Tuesday
foods with its cholesterol-cutting Benecol agent would be available in
shops across the United States on May 26.

It said its partner McNeil Consumer Products, a unit of Johnson &
Johnson (NYSE:JNJ - news), had received the green light for the launch
of Benecol products from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Raisio said Benecol margarine and spreads, already available in Finland
and the United Kingdom, would next be launched in Belgium and the
Netherlands.

''It (the launch in Belgium and the Netherlands) will happen in the near
future,'' spokesman Sten von Hellens told Reuters. ''It can be said that
it will be during the summer.''

The company said Benecol spread would be sold in the United States in
packages of 21 eight-gramme servings, priced at $4.99.

Raisio said McNeil would conduct a large-scale campaign of samples in 10
cities from May 26 as well an extensive outreach programme to healthcare
professionals.
