Silicon Valley companies in navigation market

Here are some Silicon Valley players in the expanding auto-navigation industry:

_Etak: Menlo Park company makes maps for Sony's Mobile Navigation System. Also works with General Motors and Motorola.

_Navigation Technologies: Provides digital mapping data for the Amerigon navigation system that's sold by audio companies like Kenwood. Also in Sunnyvale.

_Trimble: Sunnyvale company provides GPS technology for the CARiN navigation in BMW's European 7-Series and for Xanavi, a joint-venture of Hitachi and Nissan in Japan.

_Zexel: Developed software and licensed it to Rockwell for the PathMaster navigation system that's also in use by Oldsmobile, Hertz, Avis and National. Works with Siemens, too. Sunnyvale office does engineering and design work.
