You get data feeds directly to your computer and is one of the most important tools that a trader utilizes. You are provided access to the electronic communication network. The importance of electronic communication network (ECN) exposure is a necessary tool for successful trading. Essentially, putting in an order in this fashion is the same as if E*Trade and others were to put in their orders. The difference is that you get to choice the ECN line to assure yourself you get the best possible price you are after. Thus, this provides you with more avenues of obtaining your desired trade. For example, there are ECNs that are out there that may be accessible (it's not clear what ECNs IT will all carry): SOES (Small Order Execution System) SelectNet Instinet - INCA Archipelago - TNTO (ARCA) (Full Access to ARCHIP Book) Island - ISLD (Full Access to ISLAND Book) Attain Trade Book -ATTN Bloomberg Trade Book - BTRD Spear Leads Trade Book -REDI Unlike many ECN's and SOES, ARCA gives the day-trader the ability to route an order through all ECN's electronically with the press of only one button. No longer does a day-trader have to cancel one order to place the same order on another system. The ARCA system can significantly increase your order placement efficiency and reduce costly partial fills. Real-Time Position Tracking Every step of a live order is tracked in your position minder and order entry screen. From order entry to completion, each step is displayed in real-time for your convenience. Your positions and buying power are electronically maintained in real-time, thereby completely eliminating confusion of order status. Off Hours Trading Usually, once these data feeds are up, trading can also occur 1/2 hour before and 1/2 hour after the market bells.
