Excerpt-- "What's the advantage of using a TV/FM board in your machine versus a separate stereo system?"
PX, The home computer is evolving into a convergent entertainment appliance with communication capabilities. The "killer ap" we have all been looking for is already here and has been for quite sometime. It is called "leisure time applications". We computer geeks don't like it because it is somehow beneath the dignity of a PC. The "Public" just wants to kick some alien ass, talk to Auntie Em, and watch Terminator 6. Don't look for bandwidth to be the saviour of the PC. Bandwidth will destroy the PC, as we know it, and replace it with some kind of little black box and monitor. The PC will go back to being a business, science, and design tool. Not a mass market consumer device. Emmense storage requirements at entertainment content providers and access speeds are highly investable trends (*searching for words here) but "My Stuff" will be easily stored on cheap alternative storage devices not hard drives. It is going to be a new world for TV, telephone, cinema, music, and PCs. The distribution system of content, how entertainment gets from origin to consumer is going to drive more technology than any other trend.
A weekend submission,
