Cliff: Most of the large users of wafers (intel etc,) qualify a number of suppliers. Yes there are samll variations in wafer quality for a given purpose and the growth process can have an impact. But, I doubt that they have 1000 such variations, may be if you include the epi layers (a business which is becoming more important to WFR and with higher margins then raw wafers), then you could reach such a high number of variations.
