They admit their choices will be arbitrary in most instances. They say that they are looking for a "diverse" student body, but there is a lot of affirmative action based on their particular feelings about race, socioeconomic level, geographic distribution, etc. Essentially you can get in by being a legacy, an athlete, a favored minority group or by having written a very unusual essay. And, of course by making a massive donation to the school (probably 6 figures). I know of one such instance. Otherwise, it's a crap shoot, and they admit it. Jack
