Hi Steve, There was lots of talk about inflation in the '70s and Nixon even threatened price freezes on steel and such. However, the interest rates didn't really soar until the late '70s and early '80s.

In '74 it was more the anticipation of high inflation based upon the price of crude oil heading for the moon that drove the last stake of holly into the heart of the market around the holidays that year.

1969 to 1971 was tough with a little rally through 1973 then things got UGLY! That V-L P/E of 4.9 is still their record low. My good friend in Cleveland considers 1974 a "Buy of a Lifetime" period. In my opinion 1975 marks the real beginning of this incredible Bull Market.

All Hail El Toro!!!

Best regards, Tom
