Out all that has gone on in this sorry mess, Starr's slips don't excuse the President's actions.

I agree this in no way excuses Clinton. I happen to think though that if we lose the confidentiality of attorney and client conversations, our system will have suffered a far greater harm than the crimes that are being investigated. We will have moved much closer to an authoritarian system, that recognizes no personal freedoms. I would be surprised to hear Libertarians support this kind of action.

This current subpoena is currently being argued over just these grounds in front of a Judge. It will be shocking to me if the Judge upholds this unprecedented revision of a long established principle. It is already shocking to me that Starr's view of our Republic and our legal process has allowed him to even seek such a subpoena. I cannot accept the notion that the end justifies the means.
