Oh dear, Jumper!!!! I'm not sure if you are insinuating that I am a little too enthusiastic about Joe darling, or just very silly in general!!!!

While I enjoyed immensely your poncho of love posting, and had intended to respond with equal sly gusto, I was sad and serious last week because of Princess Diana's death. The exclamation points fell away from my writing and the fantasies were submerged and it was hard to feel amused. Now I am beginning to get my sense of humor back.

I think I am actually the exclamation point woman of SI--the cause rather than the effect. This is not a label I wear proudly or anything. I almost never use them in my real life, but they are a cheap and easy way to convey emotion when a post full of smiley faces would seem redundant and, well, have way too many smiley faces littering the screen!!!! Somehow the elegant, restrained, straight-up-and-down quality of multiple exclamations seems more appropriate to me.

You are a good writer, Jumper. What is your favorite way to express feelings electronically?????????????????????????????????
