There's a conversation going on between Ausdauer and me on a thread I had intended to place here. Having noticed that I was confused about which folder I was in, I'm now providing links to the two posts I had intended to appear here.

Message 9992771

And now, my response to part of the second link.

I don't believe that the cost of CF will ever allow one to consider giving it away. It would remain a personal possession. I still believe there is promise in mass consumption even without the "trading card" aspect to it.

You're right that it may not be necessary for the cost to get that low in the case of Flash storage. The Zip and Jazz discs were needed at one point in time to store data and transfer it to another friend or business, or to use it as back-up storage or any other kind of storage that was lacking on smaller hard drives at the time. Flash storage, in the case of cameras, will be needed to temporarily store images until they can be transferred to the computer. Once the data is moved to a computer's hard drive, the Flash storage can be used again the next time the photographer uses the camera.
