A survey from 521 security practitioners from corporations, banks, government agencies, and universities showed that last year, 32% of them reported serious incidents to law enforcement agencies, nearly twice the number as three years ago and meanwhile, 55% said that company insiders gained unauthorized access to computer networks, and 30% reported intrusions by outsiders. It has been estimated that computer security breaches cost the respondents more than $123,000 last year, and worldwide may cost businesses tens of billions of dollars.
