B: Bellsouth, Nortel Ink Supplier Agreement
Jun 28, 1999 (Tech Web - CMP via COMTEX) -- Nortel Networks has struck
a multibillion-dollar, 10-year global supply agreement with Bellsouth
under which it will sell the carrier its communications equipment,
software, and services at competitive prices.
"This will make us able to implement more equipment faster and upgrade
infrastructure without changing capital expenditures, which will allow
network architects to buy networking equipment at more competitive and
aggressive prices," said Tim Klein, director of media relations at
Bellsouth.
The agreement should take effect by the end of July and will cover
Bellsouth's affiliate companies in the United States and overseas. The
carrier said the deal should give it the cash it needs to continue
investing in wireless, data, and IP services.
"This agreement gives Bellsouth an aggressive price for volume, but it
also reduces the capital expenditures required and the number of
vendors involved," said Bill Conner, vice president of marketing at
Nortel.
