HI BJ, Most of your post is just right. We've all missed opportunities waiting for our favorite candidates to drop in price enough to be a screaming BUY. With AIM it seems to be more important to get started managing your account than at what price one gets started. If we're going to buy good companies with great futures, AIM'll take care of any initial mishaps as far as pricing goes.
However, a couple of things need to be clarified. I bought JBL originally at about $17, AIMed it for 18 months. I also added to my JBL account recently at $49 and again at about $42. Those were not AIM trades but true additions to the account using proceeds from other stock positions that I'd closed out or had bought out from under me.
In the case of LU, that account has had ASND for about two years, I believe, but maybe longer. ASND was purchased by LU so now the account owns LU instead of ASND. I believe the account at the time of the conversion this week was up about 150% since when I started AIMing it. So, now I've changed the symbol and name on it and will continue AIMing it into the future. So, it looks on the surface that the JBL and LU shares might have been purchased near their highs, but in reality, both accounts have very cheap shares in them - even if for different reasons. JBL's most recent shares need some seasoning to be profitable, but the account overall is still doing quite well.
