Kash,

<But losing gateway is bad news and lack of product surprised me.>

Unlike what is out there in the press I do not think Gateway is "lost" but it is a disappointment nonetheless. (Gateway and the OEMs who have no loyalty (excludes Dell) are probably the real winners here. They will get sweetheart deals playing off Intel and AMD, so I got into a position in Gateway today)

<This explains why the stock action is so muted.>

I thought the pop we got was pretty good given Gateway was not there. Further movement may require news - either from AMD or from the analyst community. Niles has impact so it is likely that some of the marginal analysts will chime-in the next 2 to 4 weeks as things become more concrete.

My take on things Message 10838823 remains unchanged.

In any case, have you been looking at the ASP side? There is a massacre in progress. PIII prices are in a free fall. OEM pricing for the PIII-500 seems to be in the high $200 range! Either Intel is playing hardball or AMD is winning a few key sockets - we should know in a few weeks. Either ways, Niles calls (INTC and AMD) may be on the money. Unless AMD screws up big time, INTC meeting Q4 analyst consensus expectations is becoming more and more of a long shot.

Chuck

P.S.: When I didn't see any analyst upgrades this morning, I went out and wrote a few AUG 20's to get some additional change. If there is a real run-up I don't mind losing some of my position at 20.
