Joel and everyone,

Ariba is in more than just the procurement software business. They are also setting up a "portfolio" of products that various companies can buy and sell using their software. To do that, they partner with various companies offering their wares for sale on the Net. It's an especially interesting concept.

The key decision that has to be made about the company as an investment is whether or not the proprietary software justifies the investment. Any company can provide the products in the ways they are doing it, but the real value in the company is their proprietary software.
