I wonder if Lockheed employed old Air Canada staff.

About a dozen years ago, Air Canada took delivery of its first Boeing 767. As it happened, it was the first plane in the fleet to use metric measurements. They took off from Toronto, headed for Vancouver, and about half way there the engines died. The pilot, fortunately, was a WWII vet who happened to have trained at a base in Manitoba, over which they were flying at that point. He managed to glide the fully-laden 767 down to an old air field, a move that wasn't in Boeing's owner's manual. Turned out that they had calculated the fuel in pounds, but needed to be using kilograms.
